NAMCOB had the honor of attending this year’s conference, themed “Thinking Big: Landscape Level and Transboundary Perspectives on Southern African Conservation.” Together, we explored the urgent need for innovative approaches to tackle wildlife management challenges, including habitat fragmentation, human-wildlife conflict, and climate change.
Our presentation focused on “Safeguarding Namibia's Endangered Seabirds: Urgent Conservation Actions and Long-Term Strategies.” With four globally endangered seabird species residing in our coastal waters, we emphasized the critical need for immediate and effective conservation measures. From restoring marine ecosystems to engaging local communities, we are committed to reversing the decline of the African Penguin, Cape Gannet, Bank Cormorant, and Cape Cormorant.
The conference fostered invaluable dialogue around community-based natural resource management, public-private partnerships, connectivity, and conservation health. We look forward to continuing collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the protection and sustainable management of our unique wildlife and habitats.
