On 11 November 2025, NAMCOB had the privilege of participating in a special engagement held as part of the German–Namibian Government Negotiations in Lüderitz, hosted by the Namibia Nature Foundation. The session highlighted Namibia’s growing leadership in marine and coastal conservation, with a strong focus on the NIMPA+ Project, funded by the Blue Action Fund.

For NAMCOB, this event provided a unique opportunity to showcase our work in seabird rehabilitation, marine monitoring, and community-based conservation within the Namibian Islands’ Marine Protected Area (NIMPA). Delegates visited our facilities, where we shared insights into ongoing seabird rescue and rehabilitation efforts and the vital role played by our dedicated island rangers and first responder network.

The day’s programme opened with remarks by Sophie Thayne, Blue Action Fund’s Grant Manager, and Angus Middleton, NNF’s Executive Director, who emphasised the importance of partnerships in advancing Namibia’s blue economy and marine ecosystem health. Carolin Mutorwa, NIMPA+ Project Lead, further highlighted how the project continues to strengthen the management of the NIMPA and enhance the resilience of coastal communities.

A particularly inspiring moment came when delegates visited Helene van Rhijn Primary School, where learners proudly presented their Ocean Literacy Mural, developed through the Waves of Change initiative. Their creativity and enthusiasm underscored how education and youth engagement are key to sustaining ocean stewardship.

The visit concluded with words of appreciation from Birgit Gerhardus, Head of Division for Southern Africa at BMZ, recognising the enduring partnership between Namibia and Germany in promoting marine conservation and sustainable coastal development.

NAMCOB extends sincere gratitude to our partners the Namibia Nature Foundation, the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, and our donor, the Blue Action Fund for their collaboration and shared commitment to a healthy and resilient ocean future.
